About us
Our love story with Alor started
in 1998,
after a few trips in Indonesia.
Attracted by the Indonesian luxuriant seas and the friendliness of the
countyside
people, we felt under the spell of the unspoiled Alor islands with
their wealth
of sea life, and their so unique communities.
So much to learn from their
positive open-mind,
their tribal consistency, their relation to the sea guided by their
animist
traditions, and so much other cultural or behaviour characteristics
that make
you think about what life is... It was evident for us that
we had to share
the daily life of these seafaring people, then we started our adventure
on the
tiny, beautifull and magic Kepa island, with Baba Sere and other
members of the
Menglolong original tribe of Kepa.
Respect of local communities and
nature was naturally
the spirit of our project, what is often called now "ecotourism". We
do our best to
develop our facilities with the lowest negative impacts. : using
materials
obtained from renewable resources (coconut timbers, bamboo, recycled
wood,…), providing
solar electricity, managing wastes and water with pollution control
(Anne’s
experience in waste & water engeneering helped…),
and also working with
local artisans and team, or support local handycraft.
As a diver
(Cedric
started to dive at 13 years old in 1984), it is a fascination to be immerged in
Alor underwater world,
especially after all these years of observation, as you can follow the
mutation
of juvenile frogfish, or the pregnancy of pygmee sea-horse, or have
“rendez-vous”
with hammerhead sharks or mola-mola in specific season.
Because this paradise is really
sensitive we
have always been aware about bad fishing practices. Sharing information
and opinion
with coast’s people, encouraging fishermen or government in
their actions to
protect the the resource ecosystem.
